Planets are large celestial bodies that orbit a star and are rounded by their own gravity. There are eight planets in the Solar System.
Inner and outer planets
Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars are rocky inner planets. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are larger outer planets made mostly of gas or ice.
What is an orbit?
An orbit is the path a planet follows around its star. The Sun’s gravity helps the planets move through space in a regular way.
