Preparing for Your First One-to-One Live Lesson: A Short Checklist
A one-to-one live lesson is shaped around your learning goal. A little preparation that helps your instructor get to know you is all it takes to get the most out of the first lesson.
Clarify your goal
Instead of "learn Python", write down a measurable goal such as "read a CSV file with Python and produce a summary". A clear goal lets the instructor start the lesson at the right level.
Be open about your level
Briefly note what you have tried before, where you struggled and which resources you used. Sharing this with your instructor before the lesson means the first minutes go into learning rather than introductions.
Technical check
- Grant camera and microphone permissions in your browser in advance.
- Use headphones; they reduce echo and background noise.
- Check your internet connection; if possible, sit close to the router or use a wired connection.
- Join a few minutes early.
Prepare your space
Choose a quiet, well-lit place. Keep the notebook, files or software you will use during the lesson open and ready.
Write down your questions
List the questions on your mind before the lesson. Do not hesitate to stop and ask when something is unclear; that is the biggest advantage of a one-to-one lesson.
After the lesson
On the same day, summarise what you learned in five minutes and choose a small exercise to do before the next lesson. Reviewing your instructor afterwards guides both them and other learners.
